Athlon (Daimler AG) is a provider of vehicle leasing and fleet management and is active across Europe and North America. The Belgian headquarters in Machelen (BE) is an avant-garde approach to workplace design. The corporate strategy was to consolidate several different regional offices at one central location, and implement the core principals of a new way of working (‘anders werken’). The location, a park setting along a residential corridor, is idyllic. Taking the sustainability into consideration, it was decided to refurbish and retrofit the existing building instead of demolition and a new build. The robust concrete structure of the existing building played an important role in this decision, giving our design team the necessary flexibility to thoroughly reimagine the architecture.
