Arco NV specializes in
industrial cooling. For their office and warehouse in Geel (BE), we took
inspiration from the triangular form of the building plot, as well as the
unique character of the company’s chief. Instead of wrestling with the unfortunate
plot shape, we decided to embrace it in all its glory. The result is a composition
of shifted industrial volumes of different height, culminating in the sharp
edge of the eccentrically positioned Corten steel frame of the office glazing.
The irregular, yet balanced composition distinguishes the building from the
surrounding industrial boxes, and takes full advantage of the visibility with
regards to the E313 highway. The warm orange hue of the rusted steel provides a
striking contrast against the black concrete warehouse. You hate it, or you
love it. Nevertheless, it already caught your attention.
